Staniland Academy actively promotes and rewards good attendance so please make sure your child attends regularly and on time. The school is open from 8.40 a.m. each morning so children can enter before registration at 8.50 a.m. Time missed from school may affect test results and children may find work more difficult when they return. Younger children may also find it hard to socialise with their classmates.
Parents are requested to ring the school absence line on Boston 365527 and choose Option 1 from the menu. You only need to ring school once on the first day of absence. If your child is absent and we have not received a message you will be sent a text message which you are able to reply to. If you do not ring school or send a text then you will need to send in a written note when your child returns to school explaining the reason for absence. If no contact is made with the school, please be aware that a home visit may be made by our Education Welfare Officer.
Medicines – if your child is prescribed medicine by the doctor then the following rules apply:
- Medicine prescribed 3 times per day WILL NOT be given by staff. Parents can give the prescribed dosage morning, after school and bed time.
- Medicine prescribe 4 times per day WILL be given by a member of the administration staff but parents will need to complete and sign a form giving permission for this to happen.
For safety reasons, no children should be bringing medicines or tablets to school in their lunch boxes. Generally we would expect a child to have no more than 48 hours off school if they are given medication from the doctor unless absolutely necessary. Any child suffering from diarrhoea should also be kept off school for 24 hours.
Government regulations introduced in September 2013 states that pupils should not be taken on holiday during term time. The law states that parents do not have an automatic right to take their child out of school for holidays during term time. Any absence may now only be authorised in exceptional circumstances. The decision rests with the Executive Headteacher and Federation Educational Welfare Officer. Should you need to take your child out of school for exceptional circumstances during term time, an appointment will need to be made with the Education Welfare Officer and you should contact the school office in the first instance. Absence could result in a Fixed Penalty Fine being issued under Section 444(B) of the Education Act 1996.
Our Breakfast Club opens from 8 a.m. each morning. Children will then go into class at 8.40 a.m. Entry is via the double doors near the cycle shed and children will be greeted by the Breakfast Club Leader.
You may apply for a space at this Club and will need to complete the slip below and return to school as soon as possible. A further letter will be sent home to confirm your reservation and will set out some points regarding attendance, behaviour and supervision. The letter will also ask you to indicate any dietary needs or allergies your child may have so that we can make specific arrangements.
Children will be offered cereal, toast and fruit juice and there will be no charge for this service. Breakfast will be served between 8 am and 8.20 a.m. so children should be arriving during this period. We would not expect parents to apply for a space and their child arrive at school after 8.20 a.m.
Unfortunately, no children will be allowed to attend unless they have made a reservation in advance. The “booking” system is to ensure that appropriate arrangements are in place and that we have the correct level of staffing each day and sufficient food.
Please download and complete the slip and indicate the days you would want to reserve a place for your child. All applications will be considered and a letter will be sent home confirming whether we are able to offer you a space at the club.
You should also please be aware that we would envisage that attendance at the Breakfast Club is a regular occurrence and anyone who persistently missed their reservation, without explanation, will have their place cancelled.
